Janet Braam is Wiess Professor in the Department of Biosciences and arrived at Rice in 1990. She served as Department Chair from 2007-2020 and as Interim Dean of the Wiess School of Natural Sciences in 2020, and is currently Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives in the School of Natural Sciences. Braam was in the first cadre of Rice Leaders, was recognized with Rice’s Faculty Award for Excellence in University Service and Leadership in 2021, and received the Marjorie Corcoran Award in 2022. Her plant biology research has been recognized by the 2012 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Cozzarelli Prize, the 2017 Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences Graduate School Distinguished Alumnus Award, the 2017 Women in Science with Excellence (WISE) Award, and a 2016 HERS Claire Boothe Luce Scholarship, and she has been elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Society of Plant Biology.
